In May 2023, Ras Al Khaimah received silver certification from EarthCheck, an international sustainable tourism benchmarking and advisory group. The recognition acknowledges Ras Al Khaimah’s result-driven approach to sustainability and promising trajectory for sustainable tourism.

Ras Al Khaimah has collaborated with EarthCheck to develop Responsible RAK, a tourism business accreditation program. This program monitors accommodations, DMCs, venues, attractions, and other Ras Al Khaimah trade partners on criteria including energy use and carbon emissions.

Known as the ‘Green Team, this cohort of collaborators is consistently reviewing and updating Ras Al Khaimah’s Sustainable Tourism Destination Strategy and promoting eco-tourism practices across the sector. This initiative for sustainable tourism in Ras Al Khaimah allows for accessible planning and facilitating of eco-friendly events in the Emirate.

 

Distinguished members of the team include the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, RAK Ports, Ras Al Khaimah Public Service Department, Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, and the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone, among others.
